The Pico Glitcher is intended to make fault injection attacks against microcontrollers accessible for hobbyists and to introduce the topic of voltage glitching. The software offers an easy entry point to carry out your own attacks against microcontrollers, SoCs and CPUs. With the provided and easy to use functions and classes, fault injection projects can be realized quickly. Voltage glitching attacks are usually done with expensive hardware. However, for most of the attacks only a Raspberry Pi Pico and a few other components are required. In order to achieve the best results, the Pico Glitcher was developed to combine the best of both worlds: cheap, easy to use and powerful.

New in Version 3

  • The Pico Glitcher is based on the Raspberry Pi Pico 2: higher clock speed, better accuracy in glitching attacks, more power!
  • Improved power supply: You can now choose from four different voltages to interface with various microcontrollers: 1.2V, 1.8V, 3.3V, and 5V.
  • Improved Schmitt trigger inputs provide even better and more reliable triggering.

The Pico Glitcher

The Pico Glitcher is based on the Raspberry Pi Pico, two high-power MOSFETs for crowbar glitch generation, and two level shifters to ensure compatibility over a wide voltage range. A newly designed input stage (EXT1 and EXT2) can be used to filter out noise and other disturbances via adjustable Schmitt Triggers. The multiplexing output can be used to quickly switch between up to four different voltage levels and to supply the target board with power.

You can learn how to perform voltage glitching attacks by adding the STM8 Target Board to your order. The STM8 target board has been specifically designed for attacking with the Pico Glitcher. This board will teach you how to use the Pico Glitcher and how to attack other microcontrollers using the crowbar or multiplexing method.

The functionality of Pico Glitchers can be extended with the Pulse Shaping Expansion Board. This extension is designed for high performance pulse generation with a dedicated high frequency digital to analog converter. Please note that only the full version of Pico Glitcher can be used with the expansion board.
